White and off-white in interior design

White color in the interior is a symbol of freedom and air. In modern conditions, where every square meter counts, the possession of empty space emphasizes the status of the inhabitant of the house. An uncluttered white apartment - large, with huge windows and a minimum of furniture - inevitably wins over an apartment furnished so that every millimeter of space fulfills its function. Therefore, white in the interior always looks self-sufficient - the idea that it carries is one way or another close to any person.

The abundance of white in the interior is a sign of sophistication, elegance, impeccable taste, and sometimes a certain drama. In a white setting, it will be comfortable for people with a variety of psychological needs: both for those for whom it is important to shock others (after all, it is impractical to make white furniture or a white floor in the house), and for those who are in their own walls allows them to gain strength and meditate.

But when working with white, it is important to take into account several rules, knowledge of which will save you from mistakes:

1. You cannot save on white. Expensive paints and materials will not fade in the sun longer. In addition, cheap formulations can cast blue and greenish, adding unnecessary coldness to the color. And also white always emphasizes bumps and roughness, so preparing surfaces for applying white is also expensive. But the resulting effect will be worth every ruble invested.

2. White does not always expand the space, as is commonly believed. It works well in rooms with a lot of light - and therefore with large windows. White will fade easily in a dull room, so it might be better to use it for accents rather than painting walls. Even the floor on which the apartment is located plays a role: the lower to the ground, the more shadows, and therefore, the dimmer the lighting.

3. White walls require an ideal environment: all small elements stand out against their background. Inaccurate placement of rosettes, cornices and baguettes, door handles and other elements can ruin the impression.

Like other colors, white can be very versatile. More complex derivatives of a boiling white color in design are called off-white, which has no analogues in Russian, that is, "off-white." The real skill of the designer is the ability to combine several of these colors in the interior at once. For this, a base shade is selected, and then on different walls it is slightly modified: pink, lemon, blue are added to it. Falling on the walls, the sun's rays create interesting accents on the walls.

Where to use

White is appropriate both in the classic style, where it will emphasize the complex milling of furniture, and in the Scandinavian style, for which a clean and bright space is important. In eco-style, white will be the perfect backdrop for vegetation, in Zen - the basic means of conveying the main idea.

In any room, white will find its use. In the bedroom and in the nursery, white helps to create the lightest possible environment that evokes a sense of security and tranquility.

The white bathroom is a canon in itself, since it personifies cleanliness. Decorated in white, the living room becomes spacious and rich and cozy at the same time, and the white office is the ideal work environment in which it will be easy to concentrate. A bright and clean kitchen is an excellent background not only for colored facades and colorful aprons, but also for fresh fruits and vegetables, which will become even more appetizing in a white environment.

White as the main color is a versatile background. In such an interior, it will not be difficult to change the color accents: it is enough to choose textiles of a different color, and the atmosphere will sound in a new way.

Interior accents, where the base color is white, can be completely different colors. They can be easily combined into a single composition, and the resulting picture will be homogeneous, whole without any special tweaks.

White does an excellent job of accent himself. Most are accustomed to the fact that objects that stand out should be anything - red, green, yellow - but not white. But even in a colored interior "anchors" are needed - and white objects easily take over this function.

The universal compatibility of white and its shades extends not only to other colors. They perfectly emphasize the variety of textures. Linen and wool, fur and jeans, velvet and corduroy, leather and fur look good on a white background. Wooden surfaces, worn parquet boards or metal, avant-garde interior objects look favorably in a white environment. But most importantly, such an interior is open to constant transformation.
